Install Instructions:

You MUST have the JBL sound system to complete this install successfully.  Look for the JBL logo on the front of your current stereo.  If you DO NOT have the JBL sound system, we have a source that sells a plug and play digital amplifier along with the jumper harness for $275.  Please E-mail us for more information.

To install this 2007 - 2008 Camry Navigation system into a 2007 - 2008 Camry vehicle is not that hard as the two entities were made for each other and ONLY for each other.  The hardest part is installing the speed/reverse sensor wire.

The 2007 Camry vehicle already comes with the blue tooth/voice command microphone, however you need to extract a few wires from the 16 pin plug that is already in your vehicle and insert them into the 24-pin plug on the Navigation systemClick here to see how to do so.

Simply remove your old unit from the dash, take all of those same plugs that were plugged into your single CD unit or 6 disc in-dash CD changer and plug them into the Navigation system.  You will then have a full functioning unit minus the turn-by-turn guidance the speed/reverse sensor provides.

If you own a 2007 - 2008 Camry Hybrid, you might be able to take advantage of the energy monitor however we have yet to acquire the extra information on how to get the energy monitor into full operation.  We were told it consists of finding 4 different wires within the vehicle.  Your dealership may be able to further assist you with this install.  We encourage anyone who has information about this install to post it on our message forums.

QUICK NOTE:

The information provided beyond this point applies to the 2007 Camry and 2007 Solara Navigation systems.  The main difference between the two units is the SIZE and Energy Monitor functions.  Other than that, all the plug inputs on the back are the same.

2007 - 2008 Camry Navigation Plug Layout:

R15 Plug = Navigation Power and Output to the amplifier.

R13 Plug = Steering Wheel Controls and Voice Navigation Output

R12 Plug = Speed/Reverse Sensor Plug

R10 Plug = Video Camera and Voice Command/Bluetooth Microphone Plug.  We have recently acquire a source for the plastic molding required for the install.  Please e-mail us for more information.

R14 = RSA / CD Changer

R13 = AUX

Frequently Asked Questions - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ASKING US A QUESTION!

How to Access the Diagnostics Menu - Helpful for testing the speed/reverse sensor taps.

Speed/Reverse Sensor Plug or Wires

Refer To Plug Diagram At Top Of The Page

Plug (R12)

The plug on the left is what the speed/reverse sensor plug looks like if you were to purchase your vehicle from the dealership with the Navigation system preinstalled.  Since you do not have this plug, you will need to extract the two wires as shown on the right from a 4-Pin CD-ROM to Audio Card Connector Cable.

How to find the speed and reverse sensor taps in the 2007 Camry:

Image 1

Image 2

This cable is included in the package.  If it is not, you will need to purchase the following cable from Newegg.com:

GENERIC AUDIO 24" 4-pin Connector Cable Model 11A1-12418 - OEM

  • Model #: 11A1-12418
  • Item #: N82E16812102104
  • (also try your local Radio Shack or Best Buy)

You will then need to extract the two pins from the audio cable by cutting off the plastic molding to expose the pin connector.

How to install the Speed Sensor, Reverse Sensor wires:

The wire located on the far left (wire #5) is to be connected to the reverse switch.  The wire on the right (wire #3) is to be connected to the speed sensor/speedometer.  If you can acquire a diagnostics manual from your local dealership, refer to the combination wire assembly.  From there you can find out which wire goes where.

    Optional Accessories:

    Reverse Camera (not included)

Many of our customers decide to add a reverse camera after they have finished the Navigation install and have confirmed everything is up and working correctly.  Most kids, animals, and smaller objects directly behind your vehicle simply cannot be seen with a normal rear view mirror.  The reverse camera assists the driver in backing up and covers the blind spots that cannot be seen with a normal rear view mirror by displaying the surroundings on the display of the Navigation unit.  In the long run, this is a great accessory to have as it could save you thousands of dollars from preventing accidents or even endangering someone's life.

There are two options for the reverse camera.  You can either go aftermarket, or purchase a stock camera.  The stock Camera usually sells for around $400 at your local dealership and comes with a plug and play harness.  The aftermarket usually costs between $100-$200 (depending on quality desired) and requires making your own harness from the FRONT to the Back of the vehicle.  No matter which option you choose, you will need to insert the pins into the R10 connector, more information below.

Aftermarket Camera - What should I look for?

We recommend the Eclipse BEC-106 reverse camera.  Type "Eclipse camera" on www.ebay.com in the search bar and you can see what they are selling for.  This camera already comes preinstalled with the wire harness that connects to the camera.  Simply extract the pins with the wires attached from the plug (Navigation end) and attach them accordingly to our installation instructions below.

Or you can purchase a camera for less that is not so plug and play, which will be a little more work however it can save you money...

We went ahead and purchased the HQ Keyhole Rear View Camera from Yan Laboratory Electric Science and TechnologyCamera arrived in 3 days via Airborne Express.  We will post install instructions for this particular camera soon...

You can find them with a search on Yahoo or eBay under the keywords "reverse camera"

First, you want to make sure the camera is a true reverse camera.  This means that the video camera reverses the image so the image can be shown like a rear view mirror.  If you happen to purchase a camera that works as a normal video camera, backing up will be harder than ever.

The next attribute you would like to consider is the viewing angle.  Usually they are available in 45, 90, 180 degree.  We recommend going with a 90 or 180 degree viewing angle.

Another decision you'll need to make is if you want to have the camera mounted below the bumper, in the bumper (drilling required) or in place of your trunk/hatch key lock.

Make sure the camera is in NTSC video format, as opposed to PAL.

Take note of the voltage required by the camera so you can supply appropriate voltage.  You'll need a 12 volt camera if you're connecting it to your reverse lights.  You'll need a lesser voltage camera if you're connecting it to the Navigation system.  We currently do not know the voltage output for the camera from the Navigation system so we recommend going with power from your reverse lights.

    Installing an Aftermarket Camera.

First thing first, make sure you have the reverse sensor wire connected correctly.  If your reverse sensor wire is not connected, connect it now before proceeding.

Your aftermarket camera should come with appropriate mounting, one video RCA plug, and two wires for power and ground.  Some cameras come with the power wire only and the camera is grounded through the mount.

First, you'll need to purchase a shielded video extension plug that reaches from the navigation system to the reverse camera.  20' is usually long enough, you may want to measure.  One end of the video plug will connect to the reveres camera, the other end of the video plug will need to be spliced.

Connecting Power and video to the Reverse Camera.

Tap into the wires from your reverse lights, you may need to use a voltage tester to determine which wire is negative and which is positive.  Once you know which is which, splice into the wires and tape the taps.  Shift your vehicle into reverse, and enjoy the picture.

Note:  If you do not receive a picture, ensure ALL of your taps are correct.  Some of our customers report that they needed to reset the memory of the Navigation system through the diagnostics menu in order for the Navigation unit to recognize the camera.
