10-Pin Connector - If you have a 10-Pin connector in the
rear of your stereo along with a 6-Pin connector,
that means your current unit has a built in amp. Most Toyota applications from 1987 and up have these plugs. If you would like to upgrade to a unit that requires an external amp,
it's usually as simply as snapping one harness to another. The 10-Pin and 6-Pin
connector which was plugged into your
old stereo would simply plug into the external amplifier and the amplifier
should have a 15 or 20
pin plug which would plug into the rear of your new unit.

15-Pin Connector -
Found in most early 1990 to late 1990 vehicles which have an external amplifier.
The plugs going into these amplifier are usually 10-Pin, and 6-Pin.

20-Pin Connector - Found in
most 2000+ Toyota application which have an external amplifier.
There are two types of external amplifiers. Standard sound, and JBL. The JBL
amplifiers produce much better sound quality and will work with JBL and non-JBL
head units which require the 20-Pin connector. If your current unit is manufactured by JBL
it will say so on the front of the unit and that means you have the JBL
amplifier already installed. If you have a standard sound (non-JBL)
amplifier and would like to upgrade to a JBL CD player or in-dash CD changer,
you will NOT need to switch to a JBL amplifier in order to get sound, but the
option is there if you'd someday like to.

REMEMBER:
If you have the 20-pin rear
input, regardless if your stereo is JBL or not, you still have the choice
between a JBL amplifier or a non-JBL amplifier as they would both work for your
application.

Amplifier pictured above is available in 20-pin or 15-pin end
connectors. Any Toyota application from 1987-2004 can upgrade to an
external amplifier as long as the stereo installed or to be installed requires
the 20-pin or 15-pin
connector.

This is the JBL premium sound amplifier.
2 1/2' Jumper harness connects to the amplifier, 10-pin and 6-pin plugs, and to
a unit with a 20-pin input, mounts beneath
passenger side dash. Dimensions of the amplifier are 7 3/4" x 6" x 1 1/2"
